Serbia appoints new defence minister

Aleksandar Vucic has been appointed as the Serbian defence minister (Serbian MoD) Serbia's new defence minister is Aleksandar Vucic, it was announced by the Republic of Serbia Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 27 July.
Vucic replaces Dragan Sutanovac, who had been in office since May 2007, after a coalition government was formed as a result of the parliamentary election on 6 May 2012. The coalition was approved by members of the Serbian parliament on 27 July.
Vucic, the acting head of the Serbian Progressive Party (Srpska napredna stranka - SNS), has responsibilities for defence, security and the fight against corruption. He will also serve as first deputy to new Serbian prime minister Ivica Dacic, the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (Socijalisticka partija Srbije - SPS).
