L-3 wins $200 million Army and Air Force contract for 8 military planes

NEW YORK (AP) - Defense contractor L-3 Communications said Monday it has received a $200 million-plus order from the U.S. Army and Air Force Joint Cargo Aircraft program for eight C-27J aircraft.
The planes will be delivered between July 2012 and April 2013. Each are equipped to support medical evacuations, troop movement and air drop missions. L-3 has delivered four other aircraft since the original contract was awarded in 2007.
New York's L-3 leads an industry team that includes aircraft manufacturer Alenia Aeronautica, Rolls Royce, Honeywell and Dowty.
