Bulgarian defense industry does not apply innovations

Sofia. If the military industry works well, it will help the economy. It will help even more if it applies innovations and does not produce only licensed items, economist Georgi Angelov says in an interview with him.
In his opinion the defense industry would be useful in handling the problems caused by the crisis through focusing on the production of new items, which could later be introduced in the civil industry, thus seeking wider consumption.
“Bulgaria, at least for now, does not have the level of science that can produce such innovations. So both the military industry and the other industries suffer from the fact that the universities and science in Bulgaria are far from the world’s level of innovations. From this point of view, the military industry and the other ones could benefit a lot if the innovations in Bulgaria are more,” says Angelov.
