BAE to increase power output for HMMWVs
UPI, 10.03.2010
(UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps selected BAE Systems to develop a power management system that provides tactical vehicles with next-generation power capabilities. BAE was awarded the contract to equip a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle with a new power system as part of the Marine Corps Onboard Vehicle Power program.
BAE will develop a power technology that is expected to increase output and deliver the HMMWV for evaluation by the Marine Corps. If successful, BAE could be selected for a contract that calls for a delivery of up to 10 units.
"BAE Systems recognizes the need for more electricity to power the equipment of the modern military," Marion Van Fosson, BAE Systems general manager of military vehicle systems, said in a statement.
"Our system supports the Marine Corps' commitment to develop and field new solutions that reduce energy consumption and dependence on fossil fuels. Most importantly, the technology will help improve mission effectiveness."
